About Us and Our Captain
San Juan Islands Water Taxi is a locally owned and family operated business. San Juan Islands Water Taxi strives to allow its customers to be creative and customize their experience with us. We hope to provide you with an experience that will allow you to appreciate the beauty and adventures the San Juan Islands and Pacific Northwest has to offer. Some of our favorite places include Orcas Island, Lopez Island, Jones Island and our home port of Friday Harbor.
Gunnar Wickman is our United States Coast Guard (USCG) certificated captain. The captain of our San Juan Island Water Taxi has sailed and worked on commercial fishing vessels all over the world. He has delivered Transpac Yachts from Hawaii to the United States mainland through the 1970's and 80's. Gunnar is also a nationally recognized fine woodworker and designer. He currently resides on Cady Mountain on the San Juan Island with his best friend and wife, Cynthia. Gunnar and Cynthia have two daughters.
About Liz B
M/V Liz B. our San Juan Island Water Taxi, was built in the 1950's and was formally a work boat. When working, Liz B. caught salmon with net or line. Liz B. is an all weather vessel equipped with stabilizers for a smooth and safe cruise. Liz B. is outfitted with 2 Vhf radios, radar, depth finder, auto pilot, 5.9 liter Cummins diesel engine, 9' aluminum shore boat, life jackets. Liz. B is in compliance with all safety features required by USCG. Liz B. not only provides a safe and comfortable ride, she has impeccable curb appeal.
Liz B.'s current homeport is Friday Harbor, Washington.
Services Provided
USCG Licensed Captain will transport your family and friends to a variety of locations in the San Juan Islands. Liz B. travels at a cruising speed of 8 knots allowing you opportunities to take in the natural beauty and wildlife of the San Juan Islands. Liz B. lands at all Washington state marine parks for drop off and pick up at your connivence. It is the customers responsibility to attain any permits that may be needed for recreational activities.
Liz B. is able to transport your kayak, bicycle, picnic, fishing and camping gear at no additional charge for paying customers.
Wildlife
There are lots of
wildlife which we frequently see while moving around the islands.
San Juan Island Water Taxi will stop to give way
to any and all wildlife but it is company policy that we will not follow or
alter course to get closer to any animals.
